    Details

Alkalinity: As a salt of a strong base and a weak acid, its aqueous solution is mildly alkaline, making it an excellent buffering agent.

Acid Reaction: It reacts readily with strong acids (such as hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid) to generate acetic acid and the corresponding sodium salt.

Thermal Reaction: It absorbs heat during the melting process. When heated to 120°C, it loses its water of crystallization to become Anhydrous Sodium Acetate, and undergoes full decomposition at temperatures above 324°C.

    Applications

Sodium Acetate Trihydrate is a versatile chemical utilized across various industries:

    • Phase Change Material (Energy Storage / Heat Pads): Acts as a latent heat storage material. When its supersaturated solution crystallizes, it releases significant exothermic heat, making it the core ingredient in reusable hand warmers and medical heating pads.
    • Textile & Dyeing Industry: Used as a buffering agent and to neutralize sulfuric acid waste streams. It helps maintain the optimal pH, ensuring even color distribution and protecting fabrics during the dyeing process.
    • Leather Tanning: Functions as a masking agent in chrome tanning, neutralizing acids and improving the quality and flexibility of the leather.
    • Concrete Sealing: Added to concrete mixtures to mitigate water damage and act as an environmentally friendly sealant.
    • Food Industry: Operates as an effective acidity regulator and preservative (E262) to extend shelf life.

    Storage Conditions

    • Environment: Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
    • Temperature: Maintain ambient temperatures below its melting point (58°C) to prevent liquefaction.
    • Sealing: Keep containers tightly closed. The product is efflorescent and will lose its water of crystallization if exposed to warm, dry air for prolonged periods.
    • Incompatibilities: Store separately from strong oxidizing agents and strong acids.

    Handling & Usage Precautions

    • Personal Protection: Wear appropriate protective gear, including chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, and a dust mask when handling bulk quantities to prevent skin and eye irritation.
    • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation in the work area to prevent the accumulation of dust.
    • Handling: Handle containers gently to avoid bag punctures or drum damage. Do not breathe in the powder/dust.
    • Hygiene: Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after handling.

    Common Formulations & Effects

    • Formulation 1: Supersaturated Heat Pack Solution
      • Formula: High-concentration Sodium Acetate Trihydrate dissolved in minimal boiling water.
      • Effect: Creates an unstable supersaturated solution. When triggered, it rapidly crystallizes, providing a sustained, controlled release of heat (up to ~54°C/130°F).
    • Formulation 2: Acetate Buffer Solution
      • Formula: A calculated mixture of Sodium Acetate Trihydrate and Acetic Acid.
      • Effect: Stabilizes the pH level within a mildly acidic range (pH 3.6 to 5.6). Crucial for biochemical applications, textile dyeing, and electroplating processes to prevent erratic pH fluctuations.

    Packaging Options

Package: Fiber drum or carton box, lined with PE bag. Customized packaging available upon request.
