    Details

    Properties

It is readily soluble in water, forming a slightly acidic solution. In dry air, it tends to effloresce (lose water of crystallization), and when exposed to moist air, it readily oxidizes to form a brown basic ferric sulfate coating.

    Reactions

    Oxidation Reaction: 4FeSO4 + O2 + 2H2O → 4Fe(OH)SO4 (Oxidized by air/oxygen in moist environments).

Precipitation Reaction: Reacts with alkaline solutions (like sodium hydroxide) to form white ferrous hydroxide precipitate, which rapidly turns green and then brown upon air oxidation.

Reduction Reaction: Acts as a strong reducing agent, capable of reducing hexavalent chromium Cr⁶⁺ to less toxic trivalent chromium Cr³⁺ in wastewater treatment.

    Applications & Mechanisms

    • Water Treatment (Flocculant & Reducing Agent):
      • Mechanism: Acts as an effective coagulant aid for municipal and industrial wastewater. As a reducing agent, it chemically reduces heavy metals such as hexavalent chromium into safer forms and aids in phosphate precipitation.
    • Agriculture (Fertilizer & Soil Amendment):
      • Mechanism: Provides essential bioavailable iron to correct iron deficiency chlorosis (yellowing of leaves) in crops, turf, and horticultural plants, while also serving as an effective moss killer.
    • Animal Feed Additive:
      • Mechanism: Functions as a nutritional iron supplement in animal diets to prevent iron-deficiency anemia and support hemoglobin synthesis.
    • Chemical Manufacturing:
      • Mechanism: Serves as a primary raw material for producing other iron salts, iron oxide pigments, and catalysts.

    Storage Environment Requirements

    • Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse dedicated to chemical storage.
    • Keep away from moisture, direct sunlight, and extreme heat to prevent caking and oxidation.
    • Store separately from strong oxidizers, strong acids, and food/feed products.
    • Ensure containers are tightly sealed after opening to prevent moisture absorption and air oxidation.

    Handling & Safety Precautions

    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, protective clothing, and an approved dust respirator during handling.
    • Ventilation: Ensure adequate local exhaust ventilation in areas where dust generation is possible.
    • Spill Response: Sweep up dry spills carefully to avoid generating airborne dust; wash down residual areas with water while preventing runoff into local waterways or drainage systems.
    • Hygiene: Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly after handling. Do not eat, drink, or smoke in the working area.

    Formulations

    • Wastewater Coagulant Blend: Formulated with polymers or aluminum salts to accelerate heavy metal removal and suspended solids settling through charge neutralization and sweep flocculation.
    • Foliar Iron Fertilizer Formulation: Blended with chelating agents or nitrogen sources to enhance leaf surface adhesion and rapid iron absorption by plant chloroplasts.
    • Trace Mineral Premix: Combined with other essential trace elements (zinc, manganese, copper sulfates) for balanced animal nutrition and metabolic support.

    Packaging & Delivery

    • Standard Packaging: Fiber drum or carton box, lined with a polyethylene (PE) inner bag.
    • Customization: Customized packaging options available upon request to meet specific client specifications or private labeling requirements.
