    Details

    Characteristics

Strong electrolyte, completely dissociates into potassium (K⁺) and chloride (Cl⁻) ions in aqueous solutions.

Aqueous solution is neutral (pH ≈ 7).

Non-combustible and chemically stable under standard atmospheric conditions.

    Reactions

Precipitation Reaction: Reacts with silver nitrate solution to produce a white precipitate of silver chloride:

    KCl+AgNO3 → AgCl↓+KNO3

Electrolysis: Molten potassium chloride can be electrolyzed to produce metallic potassium and chlorine gas (industrial application).

    Applications

    • Agriculture (Potash Fertilizer): Acts as a primary source of potassium for crops. It enhances enzyme activation, improves drought and lodging resistance, and increases crop yield and quality.
    • Oil & Gas Drilling: Used as a shale inhibitor in water-based drilling fluids. It prevents clay swelling and dispersion, stabilizing borehole walls.
    • Chemical Manufacturing: Serves as the fundamental raw material for producing other potassium compounds, such as potassium hydroxide (KOH), potassium nitrate (KNO3), and potassium carbonate (K2CO3).
    • Food Processing: Utilized as a nutrient supplement, gelling agent, and salt substitute in low-sodium food formulations.
    • Pharmaceuticals: Functions as an electrolyte replenisher to prevent or treat potassium deficiency (hypokalemia).

    Storage

    • Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated warehouse away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
    • Keep containers tightly sealed to prevent moisture absorption and caking.
    • Store separately from strong acids, strong oxidizing agents, and moisture-sensitive materials.

    Handling & Usage Precautions

    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear appropriate chemical-resistant gloves, safety goggles, and a dust mask or respirator to avoid inhaling dust particles.
    • Dust Control: Implement local exhaust ventilation or dust collection systems during handling to minimize airborne dust accumulation.
    • Hygiene: Wash hands and exposed skin thoroughly after handling. Avoid eating, drinking, or smoking in work areas.

    Formulations

    • Shale Inhibition Drilling Fluid Formula:
      • Composition: Water + Bentonite (4% – 6%) + Potassium Chloride (3% – 7%).
      • Mechanism: The potassium ions (K⁺) exchange with ions in clay interlayers, reducing the hydration and swelling of shale formations to maintain wellbore stability.
    • N-P-K Compound Fertilizer Blend:
      • Composition: Urea + Monoammonium Phosphate (MAP) + Potassium Chloride (KCl).
      • Mechanism: Provides a balanced ratio of Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium to comprehensively support root development, flowering, and fruit maturation in agricultural crops.

    Packaging & Delivery

    • Standard Packaging: Packed in fiber drums or carton boxes, securely lined with a high-density polyethylene (PE) inner bag to protect against moisture.
    • Customization: Customized packaging sizes, labeling, and palletizing options are available upon request to meet specific client requirements.
