Introduction
Glycerol, commonly known as glycerin, is a colorless, odorless, sweet-tasting viscous liquid. As a triol, it has strong hygroscopicity and excellent solvency, and it is non-toxic to the human body.
General chemical properties include being miscible with water and alcohols in any proportion. Common chemical reactions: esterification with fatty acids to form triglycerides; nitration with nitric acid; and oxidation under the action of strong oxidants.

Storage

Handling and Precautions
Handle with care to prevent packaging damage. Wear standard protective clothing and gloves. Although it is non-toxic, exposure to high concentrations may cause mild irritation to the eyes and skin. If accidental contact occurs, rinse with plenty of water.
Formula
Hand Cream Base: Water (70%) + Glycerol (10%) + Stearic Acid (15%) + Emulsifier (5%).
Function: Glycerol acts as the core humectant in this formula, attracting moisture to the stratum corneum, preventing the cream from drying out during storage, and providing the skin with long-lasting hydration.

FAQ
Are glycerol and glycerin the same substance?
Yes. Glycerol is the systematic chemical name, while glycerin is its most widely used common name. Both refer to the exact same chemical substance.
Can I apply 100% pure glycerol directly to my skin?
It is not recommended. Because of its extreme hygroscopicity, pure glycerin will absorb moisture from within your skin. It usually needs to be diluted with water or floral water to 10%-20% before application.
Is glycerol flammable?
Glycerol is a combustible liquid but has a relatively high flash point (160°C). It is not easily ignited at room temperature but will burn at high temperatures or when exposed to an open flame.
