    Introduction

    Basic magnesium carbonate is an inorganic hydrate composed of magnesium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide, appearing as a white, bulky, and fluffy powder. It is non-toxic and odorless. It generally exhibits weakly alkaline properties. It dissolves easily in dilute acids, releasing carbon dioxide gas; at high temperatures, it undergoes a decomposition reaction to produce magnesium oxide, water, and carbon dioxide.

    Storage

    Handling and Precautions

    The dust is extremely light and fluffy, easily becoming airborne during operation. Dust masks should be worn to avoid inhalation into the respiratory tract. It is non-toxic, but massive dust contact with the eyes may cause physical irritation.

    Formula

    Antacid Tablet Base: Basic Magnesium Carbonate (30%) + Aluminum Hydroxide (30%) + Starch/Excipients (40%).

    Function: Basic magnesium carbonate acts as a weakly alkaline antacid, rapidly and mildly neutralizing excess hydrochloric acid in the stomach to relieve heartburn. Compounding it with aluminum hydroxide offsets the side effects of diarrhea and constipation caused by each respectively.
