    Details

    Introduction

Methanol is the simplest saturated monohydric alcohol, appearing as a colorless, transparent, highly volatile, and highly flammable liquid with a mild alcoholic odor. It is extremely toxic; ingestion can lead to blindness or even death. Common chemical reactions: oxidized to formaldehyde with a catalyst; esterification with carboxylic acids; combusts to produce carbon dioxide and water.

    Applications

    • Chemical Raw Material: Primarily used to manufacture formaldehyde, acetic acid, chloromethane, and methylamine; a core basic chemical.
    • Solvent: An excellent solvent used in paints, coatings, resins, and pharmaceutical synthesis processes.
    • Alternative Fuel: Used as a clean fuel or fuel additive to increase the octane rating.

    Storage

Must be stored in a cool, well-ventilated dedicated warehouse for flammable materials. Keep away from fire and heat sources; warehouse temperature should not exceed 30°C. Keep containers tightly sealed and store separately from oxidants, acids, and alkali metals.

    Handling and Precautions

Classified as a highly flammable liquid and toxic substance. Open flames are strictly prohibited. Operations must be conducted in well-ventilated areas. Operators must wear gas masks, anti-static work clothes, and chemical safety goggles. Avoid inhaling vapors or skin contact.

    Formula

    Automotive Windshield Washer Fluid (Anti-freeze): Pure Water (60%) + Methanol (35%) + Surfactant (5%).

Function: Methanol acts as an antifreeze and polar solvent here. It significantly lowers the freezing point of the fluid (preventing freezing in winter) while effectively dissolving grease and dirt on the glass. It evaporates extremely quickly without leaving water marks.

    Packaging

fiber drum or carton box, lined with PE bag, drums/IBCs. Customized packaging available upon request.

    FAQ

    • Q: How to get more information about the product?
A: You can contact us via email at info@zhpmchem.com or WhatsApp at +8618321309391 for more information about our products and company.
    • Q: Does the product meet our requirements regarding formulation, equipment, and processing?
A: Yes, we will adjust the product formulation to your specific needs, ensuring it meets your processing requirements.
    • Q: What are the symptoms of methanol poisoning?
A: Early symptoms resemble drunkenness, followed by headaches, nausea, and blurred vision. Severe cases will lead to permanent blindness, nervous system damage, or even death.
    • Q: How can I distinguish methanol from ethanol?
A: They smell similar, but methanol is more pungent. They cannot be distinguished by the naked eye. Chemical tests (like the iodoform reaction, where ethanol yields a yellow precipitate and methanol does not) or instruments are required.
    • Q: How should a methanol spill be handled?
A: Evacuate personnel immediately and cut off all ignition sources. Small spills can be absorbed with sand or earth; large spills require building a dike and using explosion-proof pumps to transfer the liquid to a tanker.
